Many people do not know that it is required by law to have a license plate on the front of your car as well as the back. See RCW 46.16.240 for additional details. Many new cars do not have the front license plate brackets installed. As a result, the new owners never install the plate. I understand the desire to avoid drilling holes in your new car’s bumper – but if you do not have the plate, your must be prepared to be pulled over and issued a Washington traffic ticket.
I also see numerous people using tinted license plate covers. I would be cautious in using these covers because if the officer thinks it makes the visibility too difficult, he or she can give you a Washington State ticket as well. And make sure you wipe your license off after going off-roading! Bottom line, you need to make sure your license is legible.
